A fear is an emotional response to a threat. It is a basic survival mechanism that occurs in response to a very specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger. Fear should not be confused with anxiety .........as this usually occurs without any external threat.
A phobia on the other hand....is an intense reaction or irrational reaction to something or a situation. The sufferer will; experience feelings that appear to be completely out of their control. The sufferer will actively ensure that they never allow themselves to be in any situation that could cause a phobic reaction.
There are many possible phobias that may occur.....for example......you could experience situational phobia, where you have a fear of flying, a fear of driving or a fear of enclosed spaces - or you might have a fear of animals, like a fear of dogs or snakes for example.
Other types of phobias include a fear of needles or a fear of blood, a fear of surgery or a fear of heights for example.
Social phobias could include things like a fear of leaving your house, a fear of large crowds or even a fear of public speaking.

I have feared the dentist most of my life, and turned to hypnotherapy in desperation. I listened to this recording for many days leading up to my appointment which really helped calm me down. I felt I could face the visit without embarrassing myself as I had done before. This is the most optimistic I have felt in years.
