Living With Neuropathy

Neuropathy or nerve damage is a condition that occurs when injury or disease damages the peripheral nervous system. The peripheral nerves are the nerves that originate from your brain and spinal cord and they extend to your skin, muscles and tissues.

The nerves are like the communication lines of the body. Electrical signals from the brain travel through the nerves giving instructions to the various body parts. Damage to the nerves disrupts this process resulting in neuropathy.

The human body contains millions of tiny nerve endings. These nerve endings are responsible for sensations like pain and touch and even temperature. Nerve damage or neuropathy happens when the outer sheathing or myelin, which is the protective coating of the nerve cells, degenerates. Without this valuable protection, these nerve endings lose their ability to transmit information causing numbness or false signals or even pain and tingling.

Believe it or not, you can use the mind-body connection to retrain your brain to reactivate these signals, so that you can rebuild healthy nerves.

Healthy sensory nerves communicate efficiently sending the proper signals. Healthy motor nerves relay messages from the brain to the muscles so that they can move correctly and without weakness.

Using hypnosis, you can lower the experience of pain in a way similar to turning down the volume of a television set using a remote control. Doing so enables you to experience more control over your life helping you deal with the constant experience of pain.

Neuropathy can be devastating, but you can help your body heal. The pain from neuropathy can influence the way in which you live your life. Neuropathy can cause you to be overly sensitive to heat or cold, cause difficulty in standing for long periods of time, create numbness or a lack of pain sensation or even problems with balance.

The mind-body connection is very powerful, and you can use the power of your mind to help heal your body.

The human nervous system is like the superhighway of the body with its billions of nerve cells known as neurons. Using the power of your mind, you can literally envision yourself rebuilding healthy connections, so that you can move more and experience less pain. Using a powerful tool like hypnosis you can also learn to dis-associate from the pain, as you focus on more positive things.

Meditation and relaxation, and other mind-body practices like hypnosis, can offer immense healing because there is no limit to what the mind can do, in a heightened state of awareness.

The more you relax, the more you will heal because all change begins in the mind. Mind-body practices also help you lower stress, which can exacerbate illness and disease so the more you relax your mind, the less stress and anxiety you will experience.
