Financial Astrology: Using Eclipse Cycles

Financial Astrology: Using Eclipse Cycles

Posted by Victoria Reinertsdatter on 5th Jun 2017

I thought for a while, as I had this drafted, if I wanted to go into this for the financial astrology blog post this month. I remember talking about the impact of the eclipses a little with others over the course of 2016, and mentioning that during certain events, we were in fact, planting the seeds for that eclipse season that starts in February. I think it’s fairly fitting to use these in a financial blog, but also bear in mind that it’s so much more than that, and these concepts touch just about every aspect of your life.

On the surface, most people who have a basic understanding of astrology understand that eclipses will make their way through a chart right around every 19 years or so. Each time this happens, it’s going to do just about the same thing every time in between those major transition points. You will also have events at the quarter mark of each cycle that also have a tremendous impact and trigger quite a bit. These are tremendously significant parts of your life, and I would be willing to bet if you take a look back, you’ll recognize the crossroads, events and otherwise that occurred in tandem with these events and get yourself a bit of an “Ah ha!” moment. That’s good because that’s part of what you’re going to be working with.

Our first eclipse of the New Year is going to be February 10 th: Lunar eclipse in Leo. It also happens to be running alongside Jupiter in opposition to Uranus which is why I guess I thought, “Well, this could be a thing” because Jupiter, as you know, has a lot to do with finances. A couple of really nice aspects: a trine and a sextile, well, there may be some impulse control issues here in terms of money but...this is not really how you work with an eclipse. What you do, now, is you take a look back. First, pull it back nine years ago. Where were you financially? In your love life? Psychologically? Across the board. For me, 2008 was the year I began working as a professional astrologer in earnest. I’d studied a long time, but, this was when people began to hire me for this purpose specifically, and I became much more comfortable in “going out and among the people” so to speak. That year was more about my personal life, if I’m being honest. So, take a look, what was it for you? Once you do that, you can go on back 18 years. 27, if you really want to dig deep.

There is in fact, a point to all the time travel here. These events are still with you, still a part of you, and their impact is still working itself out in your life in some form or fashion. Even as I was working on this draft, it hit me, right in the brainpan what I was dealing with in terms of my career, and this should happen with you, as you drill it down, too. Find the event, you’ll find its point of connection to your present tense. It probably sounds a bit weird, but for these eclipses, those time frames aren’t anything to them. It may seem like a long time to you, but for planetary bodies, time’s got a whole ‘nother meaning. For you, though, as you do work this through you will pretty quickly discover, there are some threads in your life’s tapestry you dropped. It might be high time you picked them up again, whether you tie them off and let them go, or, begin again.

There’s an opportunity to do this pretty much every six months or so, whether you’re working with a lunar eclipse or a solar eclipse, and everyone’s got an argument for how these work. I tend to believe that our lunar events are when we can work on internal workings, those things that worked with the psyche, with our emotions and the way we react to things. Now, the solar, this would be where I feel you’d find those financial decisions and otherwise that may be holding you back even now because that’s external. If you really think about it, it seems fitting that the two are tied together because for every big external event you’ve had, every crossroads you have encountered... you were impacted on an emotional level as well. You also have to bear in mind that not all of these events are traumatic or bad. For instance, when you had your first child, when you married, things like this, are also highly emotional and transformative events, too.

If you want to take it all a step further, you might take a look into which house the eclipse happened in for you. Or which house it does happen in, in the present tense. These placements will show you what’s being changed, what’s growing, what’s being flipped around and shaken up. Bear in mind; they do not go counter clockwise as other transits do, but rather clockwise. They tend to hang out and impact that area for right around a year or two. So, don’t imagine you’ll be seeing eclipse blogs talking about a change that just happens, gets put down and never picked up again even in the context of how it’s working now. They’re simply long-term events which then become re-activated and triggered by other events as the year (or years) progress.

If you are looking at your chart to see what impact an eclipse may have, you’re going to want to pay careful attention to combinations of planets that carry challenging or tense connections. The way that your personal planets interplay with the outer planets will carry a lot of weight as will the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th house cusps. Some will experience intense changes, others, not so much. Again, this will depend on a great deal on the other things at play, but if you do look back on prior eclipse cycles where your life, your finances and what have you got upended, you can almost bet that the more tense aspects were being triggered.

One of the reasons this relates to financial astrology (or really more career astrology) is that all too often when we do have solar eclipses that impact our path, in terms of vocation, we find that there are these sorts of... signs and indicators all around the eclipse event. Actually, if you keep going back, as I did, you’ll find that actually there always were. If you have found yourself feeling a bit stuck in your career, looking more for something that doesn’t just feed your belly, but something that also feeds your soul?

I’d take a look at the patterns of the eclipses in your life and see how they tie into the upcoming eclipse season. You’ll have a powerful roadmap towards putting some things into motion, putting some things to rest and otherwise taking care of what you need to in order to get yourself on the right path, whatever that path may be for you.
